Alternative Education Discussion Series: Alternative Education 101

Join us Thursday, January 17th, 2013 from 7 to 8:30pm for the second instalment in the Lady Evelyn Alternative School Council's Alternative Education Discussion Series for 2012/2013.

Alternative Education 101

Whether you are new to the program,
have been around for a while
or are just curious.

The evening will consist of a panel discussion providing perspectives from the entire community: staff, students and parents, along with plenty of opportunity for questions and discussion.

The theme for the evening are the distinguishing features of alternative philosophy and practices (and what they look like in practice):
• A co-operative/non-competitive environment
• Innovative approaches to teaching and learning
• A balance between child-directed and child-centered learning
• Classes are purposefully designed as multi-grade groupings
• An integrated curriculum
• Pro-active parent involvement, particularly in developing school philosophy and in helping teachers develop and implement curriculum
• Student self evaluation and anecdotal reporting

Child care and refreshments will be provided. Please note, however, that children are more than welcome to attend the panel discussion. If child care is required, please RSVP before Tuesday, January 15th to monique.alexandra@gmail.com
